More praise for Weise gloves from MCN

After 1900 miles and 18 months of use, this is what MCN's Marc Abbott has to say about Weise Custom WP gloves:

"I’ve worn gloves that cost five times the amount you’d pay for these, and they’ve not always been as waterproof".

MCN Glove review: Weise Victory

"The last time I reviewed these gloves, I’d travelled 1000 miles in them and owned them for the tail-end of spring 2010" writes Marc Abbott in Motor Cycle News. "An extra year of fine weather usage has served only to enforce my belief in them".

Weise Hydra review in Ultimate Motorcycling

Leather - it's without a doubt the ultimate choice for most motorcyclists when selecting apparel [writes Ron Lieback in Ultimate Motorcycling, USA]. The abrasive-resistant material has been protecting skin since the heyday of those sudden misfortunes associated with two-wheel adventures.

And although leather's major function is there - abrasion - others are lacking, such as waterproofing. Many companies have addressed the waterproof issue, but price tags usually hover around the $1000 mark for only a jacket.

But the UK-based Weise is out to change that pricey scenario by offering the Hydra series of motorcycle apparel. The Weise Hydra leather jacket and pants are waterproof via removable full-sleeve/leg Reissa liners, and offered at the price of standard leather motorcycle apparel - under $500 for the jacket, under $400 for the pants.

And the best part? The Weise Hydra products performs each duty claimed, something I proved after six months of testing throughout various weather conditions typical in the Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Bright ideas for winter from Weise

Brightly-coloured and waterproof, the new Hornet gloves and Economy rain suit from WEISE® will help make riding throughout the autumn/winter season a more comfortable experience for only a modest investment. By November, sunset occurs at 4.30pm and in December daylight ends around four o'clock in the afternoon, so making yourself stand out on busy rush hour roads is important for motorcyclists, not only in the dark but also when other weather conditions affect visibility.

Manufactured from a mix of modern textiles and with Hipora® waterproof, windproof and breathable liner, Hornet gloves will keep hands dry, while a Thinsulate™ 40-gram lining will keep them warm too. There is goat leather on key impact areas on the palm and thumb plus a TPU shell covering the knuckles and the Hornet gloves are held securely in place with a wrist retention strap, with zipped adjustment on the cuff. However, the most outstanding feature is the hi-viz material on the cuff and fingers, with 3M™ Scotchlite piping on the back of each hand for extra visibility in low light conditions. Available in sizes Small - 3XL, Weise Hornet gloves retail for £54.99 including VAT.

Equally indispensable, the new Hi Viz Economy rain suit is manufactured from durable waterproof nylon with taped and welded seams. The main YKK® zipper runs from the collar to the outside leg and this, combined with internal mesh lining, makes entry/exit quick and easy. There's also a handy thigh pocket. With large hi-viz panels and 3M™ Scotchlite piping across the back, this outstanding rain suit is produced in sizes XS-5XL and sells for £44.99. Weise Daytona glove review on Ultimate Motorcycling

Weise Daytona gloves have been reviewed by Ultimate Motorcycling in America. This is how they started;

"Upon first glance at the SPS, I assumed the pieces of plastic would interfere with the motorcycle's controls. But these hardened bumps are placed in a position that doesn't affect the gripping of the throttle or clutch grips. I tested the Weise Daytona gloves on various bikes, and the SPS didn't inter, whether tucking on a sportbike, riding more upright on a sport tourer, or reaching for the sky on a cruiser with 15-inch ape hangers".

And this is their verdict; "The UltimateMotorCycling.com verdict: if you're searching for a short-cuff, comfortable glove that features the all-out protection of a full-gauntlet racing glove, check out Weise Daytona motorcycle glove. Just remember that if the temps are anywhere above 80 degrees, expect some sweaty palms".

Womenswear - Making the Weise Choice - London Bikers review

After the best part of 2 years off a bike to bake, deliver and raise daughter Lucy, Lou has recently taken delivery of a CBR250R and had the thankless task (as we all do periodically) of trying on clothes from a few years ago with the inevitable disappointment [reports LondonBiker.com]. I heard about Weise some years ago because BSB racer Dave Johnson wore a Weise one-piece leather suit for a couple of seasons, and as Editor I've had several releases sent through and most have tweaked my interest in this quietly impressive British company. Now we have had a chance to see their products close up and in action, so let's see what Lou made of them. Looking for a great quality jacket without breaking the bank? Then the £110 Gemma jacket from British manufacturer Weise is a great buy. The £90 Weise Papillion Trouser is what you would expect from a ladies motorcycle trouser. I like the fact that Weise has a range from 8 to 22 and I’m very supportive of manufacturers that cater for the size 14+. Weise has hit the nail on the head in terms of styling for this [Tatu] boot. I love them. They don’t look like typical bike boots; as a consequence they look great under jeans and over jeans. The Tatu has a cheeky raised heel so you don’t feel like a storm trooper in them and the fully textured sole looks more like something off a hiking boot. I love the way that Weise have added a really subtle detail on the outer ankle area, again very feminine but not in a Barbie-doll way.

Weise Abi jeans are made to measure

Getting the right fit in motorcycle clothing is crucial for comfort and safety, but quite often women riders have limited choices and can end up with little option other than ill-fitting men’s kit. Part of the WEISE® lady rider collection, Abi Textile Jeans are designed to give a made-to-measure fit at an off-the-peg price.

Tailored with a classic ‘jean’ cut to fit the female form properly, WEISE® Abi Jeans offer a snug and comfortable fit both on and off the bike, and feature a clever leg length adjustment system. Using easy-to-operate poppers, the trouser cuff of each leg can be raised or lowered to compensate for crouched riding positions, to prevent the jeans dragging on the floor whilst off the bike and to suit different types and styles of riding boots.

The Abi’s CE-approved knee armour is also height-adjustable, with two positions to help ensure proper impact protection is maintained. Inside the tough but flexible 600-denier outer shell is a removable REISSA® waterproof, windproof and breathable drop lining. This helps keep the wearer dry and regulates body temperature - perfect for riding in changeable mid-season conditions.

Zipper and popper closure at the waist keeps the Abi firmly in place; both this and the two external waist pockets feature YKK® zippers.

The WEISE® Abi Jean is available in classic black, with a subtle flower detailing at the hip in sizes XS – XXXL and costs just £89.99 SRP. For details on this and the complete WEISE® range of rider apparel and accessories, call 0117 971 9200, or visit www.weise-clothing.co.uk.

Weise Streetfight gloves reviewed in Motor Cycle News

Weise Streetfight gloves reviewed in Motor Cycle News (replaced in range by Vagos).

What’s good
: For what they are, these are perfect. A lightweight summer motorcycle glove with enough knuckle armour and full grain leather-palmed goodness to keep you feeling safe during 90% of your riding.

The short cut is extremely well judged – fitting up against your jacket without riding over or under – and the adjustable Velcro strap is flexible, secure and comfortable. They’re very well ventilated and absolutely ideal for summer riding or spring/summer/night riding when combined with heated grips.

Slipping them on and off couldn’t be easier, and they’re thin enough to completely forget about once they’re on. For comfort, I’ve worn nothing better.

What’s not: I can’t fault them. The Weise Street Fight gloves are exactly what they claim to be. The name reminds me of Capcom’s arcade classic “Street Fighter 2”, which is yet another plus.

leather to beat the weather - Weise Hydra jacket and jeans

Leather has been the traditional choice for motorcycling because of its abrasion-resistant qualities, but now thanks to the new WEISE® Hydra jacket and jeans, riders can enjoy protection from the elements as well without having to invest in multiple outfits.

Manufactured from 1.2-1.4mm Monaco performance leather with CE approved armour at the elbows, shoulders and knees, plus CE-approved back armour, the WEISE® Hydra has all of the features riders would expect to find in a quality performance leather suit, including Keprotec stretch panels at key areas to aid movement and help keep the armour in place.

It’s there the similarity with traditional leather suits ends however, as the Hydra is also designed to help shield the wearer from the elements.

Underneath the tough but flexible leather outer sits a waterproof REISSA® liner designed to keep rain out, without the need to stop and struggle into a separate rain suit.

The liner is lightweight, thin and flexible, so it doesn’t add excess bulk or restrict movement, and it’s fully breathable to help prevent the uncomfortable build-up of moisture between skin and jacket often associated with waterproof layering. Should the rider prefer, it can be completely removed.

On warmer days, perforated panels and zipped vents help to increase air circulation and should the weather take a turn for the worse, a 120-gram quilted thermal liner can be utilized, to help keep core temperature up. Again this can also be completely removed.

In addition, Neoprene at the collar and cuffs, and textile strips under each YKK® zipper add a little extra luxury for long days in and out of the saddle, while 3M™ Scotchlite reflective piping adds night-time visibility.

The WEISE® Hydra Jacket is available in sizes 40"-50" at an RRP of £299.99. The matching Hydra Jeans, which can be attached using either 6 inch or 360 degree connecting zips, cost £239.99 and come in sizes 30"-40". Both are available in classic black only. Like the complete WEISE collection, they’re also covered by a two-year, no-quibble warranty for complete peace of mind.

For details of the complete range call 0117 971 9200, or visit www.weise-clothing.co.uk.

Urban boots hit town

Weise Urban boots are designed with city streets in mind; this is what London-based Visor Down magaszine has to say about them;

"We’ve seen some pretty horrific trainer induced feet injuries over the years despite knowing that wearing trainers on the bike is a no-no. However lugging a pair of full length protective boots on your paws all day can be a right pain. If you’re nipping to the shop or want something more comfortable cool and lightweight to stick on your feet then you could look at investing in some armored shorty boots.

The guys at Weise have sent a pair of their Urban Boots and with an RRP of just £69 they are worth a look. They have a waterproof breathable lining and feature a shank in the sole to offer some rigid support. The toe and heel are reinforced to give some protection in those key areas and the trusty laces are a reliable quick fix touch too.

Overall they fit snug and the soul feels soft and springing to walk on but still manages to hold up against the trusty ‘see if you can bend them in half’ safety test.

More importantly have you ever bought a pair of boots that came with their own cleaning kit? No? Well despair not, the Urban boot comes with a little pouch stuffed full with polish, brushes and cloths to keep your new clogs clean, a really nice touch!"

Joining the Vortex is the Daytona, a short-cut sports glove, tailored for riders who like the comfort and convenience of a short summer glove, but still want the high specification of a racing glove. WEISE Monza and Urban boots

WEISE® has introduced two new boots for 2011 – the sports styled Monza and the rugged Urban – both of which have a leather upper and are waterproof too.

Designed for sports orientated riders, the Monza incorporates a malleolous (ankle) reinforcement unit with integral twist reduction. Both shin and heel have rigid reinforcement too and the Monza's sports sole has a built in shank, while stretch panels over the bridge of the foot and heel allow plenty of movement. Visor Down review of Weise Streetfight gloves

Summer is coming and we are all planning on getting some aviator-wearing-open-faced-chopper miles in this year. Needless to say race gloves aren’t quite going to fit the bill so Weise have sent in a pair of their Street Fight Gloves.

They are light weight and flexible thanks to the stretch panels but do feature double layers of leather in key areas around the palms and fingers. Needless to say we won’t be wearing these all of the time but, for cruising and quick trips, they mean an end to 5 minutes of stuffing sweaty swollen summer hands into restrictive full on protected gloves.

If you are one of those people that ride without gloves then question yourself and think 'is it worth the risk' and get a pair of these, £39 is hardly going to break the bank.

WEISE Ventoux Boots

Exploring the Earth doesn’t necessarily have to cost it, as the latest addition to the WEISE® rider clothing range proves. Designed to handle the unpredictable conditions that any two-wheeled journey – long or short – can bring, the new Ventoux boots from WEISE® are the perfect addition to any touring and adventure rider’s kit cupboard, yet are firmly in the budget boot price bracket at just £89.99 (SRP).

Comfort is key for long days in the saddle and it certainly hasn’t been sacrificed on the Ventoux. Named after the famous mountain stage of the Tour de France, Ventoux boots have a tough but supple full-grain leather construction, and flex panels at the front and rear of the ankle allow for easy movement both on and off the bike. An elasticated calf section allows leathers or jeans to be tucked into the top and a leather pad is also included at the 'shift zone' to help alleviate pressure pains from continuous gear changing.

Protection from unpredictable weather is also crucial for a long distance boot, so the Ventoux features a DINTEX® waterproof and breathable lining, to help keep the wearer dry and comfortable, in even the most changeable of conditions and temperatures. Velcro® closure and an adjustable securing buckle at the bridge allow enough adjustment for the use of thermal socks during colder days. The side closure and buckle ensure a snug and secure fit.

WEISE® Ventoux boots are available in UK sizes 6½ - 12 (EU 40-47) in black at the suggested retail price of £89.99.

All WEISE® products are covered by a two-year, no-quibble warranty for peace of mind. For information on the complete 2011 WEISE® range of rider apparel and accessories call 0117 9719200 or visit www.weise-clothing.co.uk.

Four into one with new WEISE Nevada jacket

Tough, versatile and value for money, the new WEISE® Nevada four-season textile jacket is as recession-proof as it is weatherproof, ideal for the budget-conscious rider. Named after America's desert state, where daytime summer temperatures sometimes rise as high as 52 °C and can plummet to −46 °C on winter nights, the Nevada is designed to cope with the wide variety of conditions a year-round motorcycle rider experiences.

An ISOTEX® waterproof and breathable drop liner helps to keep rain outside and prevents moisture build-up inside the jacket, while the Nevada's 120-gram thermal quilted liner insulates the wearer on colder days and can be removed on warmer ones. When the temperature rises further, zipped venting sections at the chest, back and lower arms can be opened to allow cool air in. These can be used independently or together, to give the best combination for the conditions.

Impact protection is also first class; the Nevada’s tough nylon outer shell features FC3636 and CD586 coatings, to help increase abrasion resistance and combat the effects of weathering. CE-approved armour is fitted at the shoulders, elbows and back too, and 3M Scotchlite™ reflective panels are included throughout for added visibility.

No fewer than seven pockets are available to the wearer – including two waterproof external ones – so all those travel essentials can be kept close to hand.

The Nevada is produced in Gun, Red, Blue and eye-catching Orange highlights, in sizes S-5XL Black/Gun and S-3XL in the remaining colours and retails at the suggested price of just £159.99.

For details on this and the complete WEISE® range of rider apparel and accessories, call 0117 9719200, or visit www.weise-clothing.co.uk

Best Buy for Weise Nomad

Bike Chatter has awarded the Weise Nomad Jacket a Best Buy in its annual round up of the best kit from 2010.

"This is yet again another very nice item from Weise, it is better constructed than the climate we reviewed previously and you would expect so with the price difference.

Ventilation wise this really rocks as a hot weather jacket although the padded neck can stifle a little at a standstill, overall though it shifts loads of air without feeling like you lose protection in important areas so two thuimbs up here.

In the cold and wet you do not suffer at all which is the sign of a good all rounder, the only thing really to watch is the adjustable waist velcro making the back ride up a touch."

MCN Product review: Weise cotton balaclava

Simple, effective and cheap, this is the best way I’ve found to stop my face falling off in our recent Arctic-style winters. Some balaclavas are made from expensive newfangled materials with made-up names that end in ‘tex’.

This one is nothing more than a thin layer of soft cotton, which means it’s far easier to wear under a helmet and more comfortable against skin than all that guff.

Because it’s soft and stretchy, you can move it around to cover that inch of exposed skin on your forehead or nose when it’s really cold.

Warm praise from RiDE for new Weise Tex windproof wear

RiDE magazine tested 17 different brands of thermal clothing in the latest issue (Feb 2011) including the brand new Weise Tex.

"This set of windproof thermals feels top draw" reports the tester. "When riding on a cold day their ability to keep wind out and warmth in is just what's needed" they conclude.

Priced at £106 for the shirt and matching trousers, the Weise Tex outfit was one of the best-performing in its price range, once again demonstrating the brand's core values of quality and functionality.
